How to create an AVI sample with Virtual Dub

Posted in

Open the video file with VirtualDub. Take the video to the desired starting position for your sample and go to «Edit» menu and select the option «Set selection start», then go the end of your desired sample (should be about a minute long) and select «Set selection end». At both menus «Audio» and «Video» make sure you select the option «Direct stream copy». Finally just go to the «File» menu and choose «Save as AVI...». Give it a name and save it. Now you have a movie sample, not re-encoded, ready for quality evaluation. Preview it before uploading to make sure everything went right.
If the avi file has VBR audio it might be expected that the sample audio will be out of synchronization. For those cases try Nandub.
